Welcoming Marvel’s First Family

The trailer shows us a glimpse of each of the heroes’ lives from their trip to space to what becomes of them when they land back on earth. We also get a small glimpse of Ralph Ineson’s Galactus’ looking over New York City and Liberty Island. It is set in a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world where Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm/Human Torch and Ben Grimm/The Thing are faced with their most difficult challenge yet.

The official synopsis reads:

“Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.”

This would be the third Fantastic Four film that will be hitting the big screen. In the 2000s, Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis portrayed the heroes in two films and in a 2015 reboot, Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell made their debut but was seen as one of the worst iterations of the heroes. Chris Evans made his surprising return as the Human Torch in 2024 with Deadpool & Wolverine while in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, John Krasinski appeared as a variant of Mister Fantastic who leads the Illuminati on Earth-838.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is set to release exclusively in theaters on July 25, 2025. There have been rumors circulating online of the possibility of a screening happening during this year’s San Diego Comic-Con since the film will be debuting in theaters during the event. As of this writing, there has been no confirmation.

WandaVision’s Matt Shakman is directing the film and it is written by Peter Cameron, Josh Friedman and Jeff Kaplan. Michael Giacchino returns as the score composer, Jess Hall is the cinematographer and Kevin Feige serves as the producer.
