Steven Spielberg has done it again. Press screenings have commenced for the 2021 remake of West Side Story and critics are raving about it. While it’s never too early for these types of conversations, Oscar buzz is surrounding the film to no surprise. Rachel Zegler portrays Maria to Ansel Elgort‘s Tony. Rita Moreno, who played Anita in the 1961 version, also has a role, which excited fans of the original.
This is Spielberg‘s first musical of his lengthy career and it seems to be well worth the wait. Social media was flooded with critiques following the New York premiere this past Monday. While many were blown away by the cast, there were quite a bit of reviews that suggested Elgort’s performance was bland. Praises for Ariana DeBose are everywhere, proving the ladies are the highlight of the film.
A shocker: I didn’t dislike Spielberg’s #WestSideStory. It’s not a patch on the original (what is?). People’s skin are rendered way too pale. And the VFX is jarring. But Ariana DeBose and her evocative eyes were incredible. So were Rita Moreno and David Alvarez. Ansel? Eh. pic.twitter.com/OwEPlVuv4L

I'm a big movie buff that also loves NFL football. Interviewing talent associated with films is one of my favorite things to do as there is nothing more special then diving into a project with the people who made them happen.
