It won’t be long now when the fourth installment for the Captain America movie will hit our screens. What started with Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) with Chris Evans’s Steve Rogers — A skinny man from Brooklyn who with the help of a Super Soldier Serum became Captain America — progressed to Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), before going on with the third installment for the trilogy Captain America: Civil War (2016) which marked the end of Chris Evans’s Steve Rogers as Captain America, now has a new one titled Captain America: Brave New World scheduled to release on February 14, 2025.
While the wait for Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s first 2025 movie is almost over, it’s worth noting that this upcoming movie has been in the works for as far back as July 2022 when it was first announced at San Diego Comic Con that the title would be Captain America: New World Order. Before then, it was already a known fact that Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson would be replacing Evans’s Steve Rogers as the new Captain America. So many other changes took place in the course of filming and casting, let’s take a look.
Captain America: Brave New World — What Other Changes Have Been Made?
Mackie had previously shared that the film would be a whole new storyline that’s not based on the 2021 miniseries The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and that a bunch of new casts will be featured. Because the film would be a new story it witnessed so many changes starting from the title. Barely a year after it was announced that Captain America 4 would be titled Captain America: New World Order, during production the title was changed to Captain America: Brave New World.
Also during production, photos that featured Wilson’s Captain America in his new suit, and some members of the Serpent Society throwing hands were released. The photo happened to feature WWE Superstar Seth Rollins as one of the members of Serpent Society. The excitement and buzz of seeing Rollins on the photo triggered speculations from the fans of the professional wrestler centering on who he would be playing— characters like Copperhead, Constrictor, or Cobra were up for possible prediction but in the end, Rollins confirmed that he would no longer be a cast in the film due to incessant reshoots that resulted in rewriting the script.
In 2024, Giancarlo Esposito shared that he’d been cast in an MCU role, it was later confirmed that he would be playing Seth Voelker a.k.a Sidewinder who is the leader of the villainous Serpent Society. Harrison Ford will take up the role of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross the Red Hulk. Ford will be replacing William Hurt who portrayed the Ross character from 2008 The Incredible Hulk to 2021 Black Widow. Hulk was said to have accepted to play the Red Hulk in Captain America 4 but he unfortunately passed away in March 2022.
Captain America: Brave New World — Casts
It’s now known that Anthony Mackie, Giancarlo Esposito, and Harrison Ford will be featured in the film but there are other casts worth mentioning too such as; Danny Ramirez who would be playing the character Joaquin Torres a.k.a Falcon. Just like Wilson took on Evans’s vibranium shield to become Captain America, Torres takes up Wilson’s former mantle of Falcon.
Liv Tyler will reprise her role as Betty Ross, a cellular biologist and Thaddeus Ross’s daughter, from the 2008 The Incredible Hulk, while Rosa Salazar will portray Diamondback, a member of the Serpent Society. Carl Lumbly will play Isaiah Bradley, an African-American Korean War veteran and super soldier who was imprisoned and experimented on for 30 years.
