It’s been just four months since the first official trailer for Ryan Coogler’s upcoming movie Sinners was released by Warner Bros. Pictures, and now, it has a new trailer which was released on January 28, 2025.
Sinners, starring Michael B. Jordan is a horror movie directed and produced by Black Panther director Ryan Coogler, and co-produced by Sev Ohanian and Zinzi Coogler. It was also executive produced by Ludwig Göransson, Will Greenfield, and Rebecca Cho. It’s worth knowing that this upcoming movie isn’t the first project that Coogler and Jordan had collaborated on.
It’s true that Coogler’s directing career skyrocketed courtesy of his work with the MCU Movie Black Panther but, most of the movies Coogler directed, Jordan starred in starting with Fruitvale Station (2013), and Creed (2015). Coogler went on to direct Black Panther (2018) that featured Jordan, and its sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) in which Jordan made a small cameo role in.
More On Ryan Coogler’s Sinners
The official synopsis for Sinners reads, “Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers (Jordan) return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.” The film is set in the period of 1930s Mississippi, in the heart of the Jim Crow-era South.
Jordan will be playing a dual role in Sinners, starring as twin brothers Smoke and Stack. The twins who came back to their home in Mississippi with the hope of starting a new life, no sooner realized that there’s a greater evil awaiting them upon their return. The film is said to feature vampires, although Coogler already mentioned that it covers more than the horror genre.

Speaking with GamesRadar+ in a Q&A session centered on his upcoming movie Sinners, Coogler explained why he feels Sinners would be more exciting than Black Panther. He attributed his opinion to how the casts took “ownership” of their roles.
“This cast reminds me of the [Black] Panther films, but in a way that’s maybe more exciting in that, when audiences watch this, this is gonna be the first time they see these people – there’s no comic books on it. They really made a community when we were filming down in the South, they really looked out for each other.”
Coogler also shared that the movie is “personal” to him.
“It’s very personal. It’s interesting, too, because every time I’ve been blessed enough to make something, it’d been the most personal thing that I made up to date and this one’s no different,” said Coogler. “The film, for me, was a reclamation of a time and a place that my family doesn’t talk about much, because there’s a lot of feelings associated with our history there. We go there [in this].”
Warner Bros. began working on the film last February, with production running from April to July. Sinners reportedly cost around $90 million to make.
What Other Actors Appeared In Sinners?
Several other elite actors starred alongside Jordan in Sinners. They include; Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse), Jack O’Connell (Ferrari, Back to Black), Wunmi Mosaku (Lovecraft Country, Loki), Jayme Lawson (The Penguin, The Woman King), Omar Benson Miller (CSI: Miami, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and Delroy Lindo (Da 5 Bloods, The Harder They Fall).
Sinners will be released in United States theaters on April 18, 2025, from Warner Bros. Pictures.
