Will someone recommend “The Devil” another clothing brand already?

Almost two decades after the hit Comedy/Drama The Devil Wears Prada premiered in 2006, it has been announced that its sequel The Devil Wears Prada 2 will hit the theaters come May 1, 2026. The movie which was directed by David Frankel was an adaptation of a 2003 novel of the same name, written by Lauren Weisberger.

The sequel was first announced last year July 2024 by Frankel with no specific release date in mind. However, an opening came after Avengers: Doomsday which was originally scheduled to be released May 2026 got delayed by Disney. Avengers: Doomsday is currently scheduled to be released on December 18, 2026.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 — What To Expect

The first chapter starred Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly— the all-powerful editor-in-chief of the fictional Runway magazine (she always has the final say and woe betide you if you dare question her judgement), Anne Hathaway as Andrea Sachs— a fresh graduate of journalism who was lucky/unlucky enough to get a job as Priestly’s assistant (mind you, her office position is what “a million girls would kill for”).

Emily Blunt as Emily Charlton— Priestly’s first assistant who has no choice but to hand over the baton to Andy, and Stanley Tucci as Nigel— a longtime fashion editor at Runway who, out of sympathy, took Andy under his wing and introduced her to Runway’s fashion closet.

This next chapter will see Priestly face off against Charlton who is now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs. With her magazine Runway in dire need of money, the question is, will Priestly cast aside her pride and turn for advertising dollars to Charlton (her former assistant who was nearly burnt out by stress while under her) for help?

The Devil Wears Prada 2 — Returning Casts

Though it was reported last year that Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt would be reprising their roles as Miranda Priestly, and Emily Charlton, no other cast members have been officially confirmed. The return of Anne Hathaway is also unknown but, in a recent conversation with Variety, Stanley Tucci told the outlet, “I know they’re working on it. If it happens, I would be so happy, but I cannot give you any information. Otherwise, I’ll go to the actor’s prison or something. [The original] was one of the best experiences ever.”

Notably, the script of the sequel is being penned by the original movie’s writer, Aline Brosh McKenna, and it’s also being produced by its previous producer Wendy Finerman.
