Scarlett Johansson Speaks On The Issues That Comes With Filming MCU Movies

The last time we saw Scarlett Johansson in an MCU movie was in her standalone movie Black Widow (2021).

Turns out that playing Natasha Romanof aka Black Widow isn’t a walk in the park.

Scarlett Johansson played the character Natasha Romanof/Black Widow in the MCU movies starting from Iron Man 2 (2010) to Avengers: Endgame (2019) when her character sacrificed herself to obtain the Soul Stone for Clint Barton/ Hawkeye. The last time we saw her in an MCU movie was in her standalone movie Black Widow (2021).

Although the possibility of her character coming back to life is uncertain, she did share that while filming some of the Avengers movies, there were unavoidable issues that came up during filming.

What Happened To Scarlett Johansson During Filming?

In a recent interview with her Black Widow co-star David Harbour, Johansson shared how tasking it was to film her character with so many casts. She gave an instance with Captain America: The Winter Soldier where there were so many casts. She explained that the amount of casts in the film made her feel like her role in the movie was an extra.

“When you have those big time commitments, sometimes it’s harder to find the special moments day to day,” Johansson revealed. “Some of the films that I did for Marvel engaged my character more than others. Like in [Captain America: The] Winter Soldier with Chris [Evans], we were really dynamic. In some of the other films, the cast was so enormous and there was so much plot to serve that you start to feel like you’re a device to move it along.”

The actress also shared that if such movies were scheduled to take months to film, she wouldn’t be able to do anything about her personal looks so as not to tamper with her character’s look. “And if you’re committed to five and a half months of that, it’s like, ‘Okay. I can’t paint my nails, I can’t get a haircut.’ These sound like silly problems, but your identity is wrapped up in this job for a long time, and if you’re not doing engaging work as an actor, you feel a little cagey sometimes.”

Will Scarlett Johansson’s Character Black Widow Come Back To Life?

It was quite fun watching the chemistry between Steve Rogers/Captain America, and Black Widow to the extent of wishing they would spark a romance but, after establishing that they were satisfied with being just friends, and Natasha going on the date Bruce Banner/Hulk, it wasn’t easy watching Black Widow sacrifice herself the way she did in Endgame.

During the interview, Johansson asked Harbour about the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday for which he was confirmed to reprise his role as Alexei Shostakov aka The Red Guardian. Johansson jokingly said, “I haven’t lost my magic Marvel touch yet. I’m not even contracted to Marvel and I’m still f–ing holding your secrets.”

Johansson’s statement made Habour tease that  her silence is because she is “the secret character” and that “the Black Widow comes back from the dead.” When Johansson heard that, she said, “If I come back from the dead, then half the world’s population dies. Didn’t you see Endgame for Christ’s sake?”

Johansson’s response solidifies the fact that we won’t be seeing Natasha Romanof on our screens again —at least not as Black Widow. There’s a chance that if she appears again, she’ll play a whole new character just like Robert Downey Jr. will be playing a new character Doctor Doom.
