This is so up my alley because I LOVE football, particularly NFL, so bring on all the football specials ahead of next weekend’s Super Bowl.
Peacock is set to spotlight one of the most important and often underexamined chapters in professional football history with its new four-part sports docuseries, Field Generals: History of the Black Quarterback, premiering Thursday, February 5. Executive produced by NBC Sports anchor and journalist Maria Taylor, the series offers a powerful, in-depth exploration of the Black quarterbacks who helped shape the modern NFL, both on and off the field. New episodes will debut weekly on Peacock, and viewers can find additional information at www.PeacockTV.com.
Field Generals: History of the Black Quarterback takes audiences on a journey through decades of football history, beginning around the time of the AFL-NFL merger and continuing through the turn of the 21st century. The docuseries examines not only athletic achievements, but also the cultural, political, and social barriers Black quarterbacks faced while trying to lead teams in a league that was often resistant to change.

Throughout the four episodes, the docuseries will highlight the trailblazers who challenged stereotypes, broke barriers, and redefined what leadership as a quarterback could look like. These are not just stories of wins and losses, but of resilience, adaptability, and determination. The series also explores how narratives around intelligence, play style, and leadership were unfairly weaponized against Black quarterbacks, but also how many of them persevered to leave a lasting mark on the sport.
The project features an impressive lineup of interviews with legendary quarterbacks, including James “Shack” Harris, Warren Moon, Doug Williams, Randall Cunningham, Vince Evans, Chuck Ealey, Rodney Peete, Donovan McNabb, Michael Vick, and Lamar Jackson. Their firsthand accounts provide emotional depth and authenticity, offering insight into what it meant to carry the weight of expectation while navigating an uneven playing field.
Field Generals also includes perspectives from prominent voices in sports, media, and culture. Interviewees include Michael Wilbon, Rich McKay, Joe Gibbs, Michael Eric Dyson, Jayne Kennedy, Bomani Jones, Michael Beschloss, Bob Costas, and others.
Field Generals: History of the Black Quarterback lands on Peacock February 5th.

I'm a big movie buff that also loves NFL football. Interviewing talent associated with films is one of my favorite things to do as there is nothing more special then diving into a project with the people who made them happen.
