Glen Powell Plots Against His Family For a Massive Inheritance in Trailer for A24’s ‘How To Make a Killing’

Glen Powell plots an unconventional path to fortune in the first trailer for A24’s How to Make a Killing, a darkly comic thriller headed to theaters on February 20, 2026.

The film marks the latest project from writer-director John Patton Ford, whose breakout debut Emily the Criminal established him as a sharp new voice in character-driven crime stories. This time, Ford turns his attention to wealth, power, and the extreme lengths one man will go to secure what he believes he’s owed.

Powell stars as Becket Redfellow, the overlooked and discarded member of an obscenely wealthy dynasty. Shut out from the family fortune, Becket decides to take matters into his own hands. His plan? Eliminate the relatives who stand between him and the inheritance he believes is rightfully his. The film draws inspiration from Robert Hamer’s 1949 British classic Kind Hearts and Coronets, but Ford’s version leans into a modern, razor-edged tone that blends satire with escalating suspense.

Margaret Qualley, Jessica Henwick, Zach Woods, Topher Grace, Bill Camp, and Ed Harris round out the impressive ensemble. With a cast stacked with distinctive performers, How to Make a Killing positions itself as one of A24’s most anticipated genre releases of the coming year.

The project has had a long road to the screen. Ford’s script first appeared on the 2014 Black List under the title Rothchild, drawing attention for its sharp voice and wicked sense of humor. StudioCanal eventually boarded the film, financing and producing alongside Graham Broadbent, Peter Czernin, and Adam Friedlander. During development, the film underwent several title changes (it was initially going to be titled Huntington) before landing on How to Make a Killing, a name that reflects both the financial ambition of the protagonist and the darkly comic violence woven throughout the story.

Powell, who is currently on screens in Paramount’s action remake of The Running Man, recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about the upcoming release. Though he remained tight-lipped about plot details, he emphasized his excitement for audiences to finally see the film. “The movie is fantastic, and John Patton Ford is a great filmmaker,” Powell said, noting that the title change reflects the creative team’s desire to find the perfect fit for the film’s tone. “I can’t wait for people to see it.”

With its blend of sharp humor, stylish tension, and a lead performance from one of Hollywood’s fastest-rising stars, How to Make a Killing is already shaping up to be a highlight of A24’s 2026 slate.

I'm a big movie buff that also loves NFL football. Interviewing talent associated with films is one of my favorite things to do as there is nothing more special then diving into a project with the people who made them happen.
