The first reviews for Warner Bros highly anticipated DC flick, BLACK ADAM, are in. To the surprise of many, it opened to a 54% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from the 57 critics who submitted.
In a nutshell, without any spoilers of course, it appears the film did very little to develop the supporting characters but managed to restore the faith in the future of the DCEU. If you’re into these superhero movies, I can bet you already know what that means.
Dwayne Johnson’s performance has gotten praise for his devotion to bringing the character to life and leaving everything on the floor. He exudes strength and passion and it is clear he wants to see the DCEU reach high success much like that of the MCU.
While we are still in the early stages of reviews rolling in, so much focus is on Johnson and what the film does for the future. There isn’t a ton of talk about the supporting cast which includes Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, and several others.
The Tomatometer does factor in audience ratings once it hits theaters for the general public so there’s still a big chance BLACK ADAM doesn’t remain with such a low score. Only time will tell but one thing’s for certain: this cast put in a lot of work to bring this film to the big screen. It would be a shame if it weren’t well received by audiences, especially since Johnson has been attached to this role for almost 15 years and finally brought it to life.
Those who have been waiting for this adaptation long since Johnson first expressed interest back in 2007 will not walk away disappointed. – Ben Rolph, Discussing Film
