When Spider-Man: No Way Home opened on December 17, 2021, it wasn’t just another MCU release — it was a genuine cultural event. Lines around the block, sold-out Thursday previews, and the kind of audience reaction that gets filmed and posted and goes viral before the credits finish rolling. Nobody expected a superhero movie to do what this one did, especially not in the middle of a pandemic.

The numbers that followed were equally stunning.

How Much Did No Way Home Make?

Peter Parker No Way Home

No Way Home pulled in $814.9 million domestically and $1.107 billion internationally, landing at a worldwide total of $1.921 billion. That made it the highest-grossing film of 2021, the highest-grossing Spider-Man film ever made, and the highest-grossing release in Sony Pictures history.

It was also the first film in two years to cross $1 billion at the global box office — and the first to do it during the COVID-19 pandemic, at a time when the theatrical industry was still fighting to get audiences back in seats. That context makes the number mean more than just the dollar amount.

Where Does It Rank All-Time?

Domestically, No Way Home is the third-highest-grossing film of all time in the United States and Canada, behind only Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Avengers: Endgame. Globally, it sits sixth on the all-time list — and it got there without ever opening in China, the world’s largest box office market. That’s the part that still doesn’t feel real.

Its opening weekend of $600.8 million worldwide placed it third all-time, behind only Endgame and Infinity War. For reference, it posted those numbers while Omicron was actively discouraging people from going anywhere near an indoor crowd.

What Made It Hit So Hard?

The multiverse premise was doing a lot of heavy lifting. The promise of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield suiting up alongside Tom Holland wasn’t just a selling point — it was the kind of thing fans had been theorizing about for years, and the film actually delivered on it. Audiences showed up opening night and then came back, which is increasingly rare. No Way Home held the number one spot at the domestic box office for six out of its nine weekends of release.

It also landed at exactly the right moment. Two years into a pandemic that nearly dismantled the theatrical experience, this was the film that reminded people why in-theater movies still matter. Whatever goodwill that generated, it shows up in the numbers.

The audience response backed it up too. No Way Home held a 99% Rotten Tomatoes audience score at the time of its release — one of the highest ever recorded on the platform.

Where Does It Stand Now?

Nearly five years later, no Spider-Man film has come close to touching it. Far From Home, the second-highest-grossing film in the franchise, finished at around $1.13 billion worldwide. That’s almost an $800 million gap — which tells you everything about how rare what No Way Home pulled off actually was.

With Spider-Man: Brand New Day now in theaters, this is a good time to revisit what set the bar. The Holland trilogy built something audiences clearly weren’t ready to let go of, and that enthusiasm carried a movie from a beloved but mid-tier franchise to one of the highest-grossing films in cinema history.

Spider-Man: No Way Home — Where to Watch

No Way Home landed on Disney+ on April 15, 2026, completing the Tom Holland trilogy on the platform alongside Homecoming and Far From Home. It’s also streaming on Netflix and available for free on FXNow, with rental and digital purchase options on Amazon Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home. The extended cut — The More Fun Stuff Version, which runs about 11 minutes longer — is also available on most VOD platforms if you want the full experience.
