Audiences love a good blockbuster, but are they ready to hit the theaters 2 weeks in a row? As of late, box office performance has been struggling with many consumers complaining about pricing and how films tend to hit streaming services very shortly after (The Fall Guy made its way to homes 2 weeks after its May 3rd release). July 2024 is looking to be different, with an assortment of intriguing pictures incoming, including Nicholas Cage’s Longlegs and Mia Goth’s MaXXXine, which serves as the conclusion of Ti West’s unique trilogy.
Promising heavy hitters of the month are without a doubt Twisters and Deadpool & Wolverine, both of which have prior installments. With them being a week apart, it’s definitely one of those cases where folks who typically only visit a theater once a month will actually carve out time for this double header. We take a look at each film and why it’s a must to see these two on the big screen over settling for streaming.
Twisters

Hollywood’s newest leading man, Glen Powell, is the star of Twisters, a follow up of the 1996 classic, Twister, that starred Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt. Along for the adventure are Daisy Edgar-Jones and Anthony Ramos, with Lee Isaac Chung (Minari) overseeing the director duties. Powell is arguably the go to right now, with his recent successful run of films from Top Gun: Maverick to Hitman to Anyone But You. He is no newcomer, as he was first seen in Spy Kids 3D: Game Over back in 2003 and had a small role in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. It’s quite possible that this sequel will see great success given the cinematography is guaranteed to be top notch today. With Powell’s career on a crazy winning streak, it’s hard to imagine this film flopping at the box office, not to mention being immersed in tornadoes hits different when in a surround sound booming theater over a dismal home 55 inch. It’s been a while since we were graced with a movie in which weather was the villain, so this should be a fun one. Catch it in theaters July 19th, with tickets on sale now.
Deadpool & Wolverine

This one right here has the potential to be the biggest film over the year, joining the ranks of a few including Dune 2. With the traction that presale tickets and social media have right now, Deadpool & Wolverine can easily Usain Bolt their way over the $1 billion finish line. As of this post, Inside Out 2 is the only film of 2024 to cross that threshold in a span of 2 weeks. Previously mentioned Dune 2 got close with $720 million worldwide to date. Fans and movie goers alike have listed this third installment within their top 3 must see of the year, so that alone is a clear indication that it’ll put up some Kobe numbers. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have already started their press tour in China, as the lovably hilarious duo are single handedly pushing this film with all their hearts. The internet broke when a clip was released of the two announcing the project was officially happening back in September of 2022, and we’ve been eagerly waiting ever since. Deadpool & Wolverine is set to release July 26th, the same week as San Diego Comic Con, leading many to hope and pray there is a huge presence at the con. It was announced last week that Marvel will be making a stop at Hall H, possibly taking their usual Saturday time slot of 5:30pm-7pm. Many have already sold out local San Diego theaters, which makes sense, seeing how the biggest fans will all be pulled in from all over for opening weekend.
It’s a known fact that money is tight for many right now, but somehow I get the feeling that won’t stop movie fanatics from swinging by their local theater to check out Twisters AND Deadpool & Wolverine. Two projects from totally different genres, both of which look very promising. Will you be checking out both? Let us know on socials!

I'm a big movie buff that also loves NFL football. Interviewing talent associated with films is one of my favorite things to do as there is nothing more special then diving into a project with the people who made them happen.
