Universal’s Presentation at CinemaCon 2025

Three down, four to go! Next up is Universal, and there are some titles we’ve been excited to hear more about for some time now. Lots of sequels coming out of this studio, so let’s dive into what they brought for their upcoming slate.

Wicked: For Good

Release Date: November 21, 2025

Universal showcased an emotional new trailer for Wicked: For Good at CinemaCon 2025, with director Jon M. Chu and stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in attendance. The footage opens with a tense confrontation between Elphaba and Glinda in the Emerald City before exploding into rebellion. Set to Erivo’s powerful rendition of “No Good Deed,” Elphaba ignites a revolution, skywriting “The Wizard Lies” as the Wizard closes in.

The trailer later softens with a moving take on “For Good,” highlighting Glinda’s wedding, glimpses of Dorothy on the Yellow Brick Road, and a pivotal moment where Fiyero aids Elphaba’s escape. The footage ends with Elphaba fleeing flying monkeys, cementing the sequel as a sweeping, emotional finale.

Jurassic World: Rebirth

'Jurassic World Rebirth' is mostly dumb, sometimes fun

Release Date: July 2, 2025

Introduced with a live orchestra performing the iconic theme, Jurassic World: Rebirth promises a return to spectacle and terror. The footage opens with Scarlett Johansson’s Zoe Bennett trapped in a lab as a mutant dinosaur attacks behind glass. The story centers on a dangerous mission to retrieve DNA from an experimental breeding zone.

Highlights include an instense T-Rex chase, a Mosasaurus ambush, and teases of terrifying new hybrid dinosaurs, including an adorable Aquilops. Director Gareth Edwards appears to lean fully into awe, fear, and large-scale thrills.

HIM

Release Date: September 19, 2025

Jordan Peele-produced HIM blends sports drama with psychological horror. The teaser follows a young football player (Tyriq Withers) mentored by a ferocious retired quarterback played by Marlon Wayans. What begins as an intense training story quickly spirals into the surreal.

X-ray visuals, cult imagery, injections, and a demonic mascot transform the film into something deeply unsettling. The teaser ends on a football field covered in occult symbols, signaling a nightmarish exploration of ambition and control.

M3GAN 2.0

Release Date: June 27, 2025

CinemaCon attendees were treated to chaos and camp as M3GAN 2.0 debuted its trailer with a flash-mob dance number. The sequel reveals M3GAN’s stolen code has spawned a new killer android, Amelia, forcing Gemma to resurrect and upgrade M3GAN to stop her.

The tone is bigger, louder, and funnier, leaning fully into absurdity. Highlights include diva-on-diva murder bot battles, internet stans, and an unforgettable squirrel-suit skydiving sequence.

The Bad Guys 2

The Bad Guys' Review: Villains Become Heroes in a Jaunty Cartoon Romp

Release Date: August 1, 2025

The animated sequel doubles down on style and humor as The Bad Guys struggle to stay reformed. Their plans are disrupted by The Bad Girls, a dangerous all-female crew plotting a space shuttle heist.

The footage delivers fast-paced action, visual flair, and nonstop jokes, culminating in a helicopter-versus-rocket showdown. Fans of the original can expect bigger stakes and even wilder antics.

Nobody 2

Bob Odenkirk's Nobody Leads Box Office, Godzilla vs Kong Rules Overseas

Release Date: August 15, 2025

Bob Odenkirk returns as Hutch in a sequel that cranks up both violence and comedy. What starts as a family vacation quickly unravels into brutal fights, prison brawls, and a conspiracy involving a drug empire run by Sharon Stone.

The trailer promises inventive action set pieces, sharp humor, and a more playful extension of the original film’s gritty charm.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2

Release Date: December 5, 2025

Jason Blum unveiled a short but chilling teaser confirming Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 will be a theatrical-only release. The footage teases a carnival setting and reveals the animatronics are no longer confined to Freddy’s Pizza.

Balloon Boy and Toy Freddy make ominous appearances, suggesting a broader and more public threat this time around.

The Black Phone 2

The Black Phone' Review: Ethan Hawke as a Serial Killer

Release Date: October 17, 2025

Scott Derrickson’s sequel leans harder into the supernatural. Set to a haunting rendition of “The Rooster,” the footage shows Finney and Gwen tormented by visions—and the ringing phone returning from beyond the grave.

Ethan Hawke’s Grabber appears even more terrifying, skating through snow and haunting the siblings from the afterlife. The sequel looks darker, stranger, and more frightening than its predecessor.

Soulm8te

Release Date: January 2, 2026

A wild, R-rated spin-off from the M3GAN universe, Soulm8te introduces a robotic sex companion who refuses rejection. What begins as flashy erotic fun quickly turns violent as Lily Sullivan’s android goes full Terminator.

The footage promises gory thrills, dark humor, and an unapologetically unhinged take on love, obsession, and autonomy.

The Phoenician Scheme

Release Date: May 30, 2025

Wes Anderson’s latest follows a wealthy aristocrat (Benicio Del Toro) who survives a plane crash and attempts to pass his estate to his nun daughter. Naturally, chaos ensues.

The footage is packed with Anderson’s signature visuals, deadpan delivery, and an all-star ensemble, marking another meticulously crafted entry in his filmography.

Bugonia

Release Date: November 7, 2025

Yorgos Lanthimos’ Bugonia debuted with a cryptic teaser featuring Jesse Plemons as a beekeeper describing hive hierarchy. As he speaks of queens, unsettling flashes of Emma Stone appear.

The teaser ends with Stone’s character collapsing and undergoing a disturbing transformation, signaling another surreal, unsettling descent into Lanthimos territory.
