HBO’s HARRY POTTER Series Finds Its Harry, Ron, and Hermione

On May 28th, HBO announced the lead cast of the upcoming Harry Potter television series. Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout will step into the roles of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley. This news arrives as production begins this summer with the series being released in 2026.

Harry Potter has become a massive household name for quite some time. The book series were a big hit for young fans in the 90’s and by the time the books were adapted as a film series, the popularity significantly grew.

The Beginnings of Worldwide Fame

For young actors Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, their fame launched rapidly in the early 2000’s when they landed their roles in the film series. From then on, the actors are always recognized as the young kids who portrayed the young witch and wizards from the beloved films. For McLaughlin, Stanton and Stout, taking these iconic roles will also launch them into stardom. McLaughlin and Stanton have acted beforehand with Dominic acting in an upcoming comedy called Grow and Arabella starring as Matilda on the West End production of Matilda: The Musical from 2023-2024. Stout’s role as Ron Wealey will be his first major role in his acting career.

Author’s Backlash Among Fans

J.K. Rowling, the original author of the series, has come into fire for the past few years due to her controversial views on the transgender community. This has ultimately resulted with many fans to stop supporting the author and also the series. When it was announced that HBO had plans to make a television series, HBO’s chief content officer Casey Bloys said that the author was “entitled” to her own beliefs and if anyone wanted to debate her, they could debate her via Twitter/X.

The young leads will be joining fellow cast members John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape. An official release date for the series has yet to be announced.
