Johnny Depp is stepping into a mysterious new role with Day Drinker, and the first trailer has finally arrived.
Lionsgate has released the first look at the upcoming thriller starring Depp alongside Penélope Cruz and Madelyn Cline. Directed by Marc Webb, the film takes place largely aboard a private yacht and follows a bartender who becomes caught up in a dangerous situation after meeting a mysterious passenger.
The trailer introduces Cline, coming off the success of Outerbanks, as a private-yacht bartender whose routine takes an unexpected turn when she encounters Depp’s character. He is a mysterious guest who spends his time drinking during the day. What begins as a seemingly random meeting quickly pulls the two characters into something much darker.

The trailer hints that Depp’s character is not simply a strange passenger looking for a drink. There appears to be a supernatural element surrounding him, while the story also introduces a criminal underworld that brings Cruz’s character into the picture.
As Cline gets closer to Depp’s character, the situation becomes increasingly dangerous. The film appears to blend elements of crime, action, thriller, and supernatural horror into its story.
Day Drinker marks another collaboration between Depp and Cruz. The pair have previously shared the screen in Blow, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and Murder on the Orient Express. This new film marks their fourth movie together.

The cast also includes Manu Ríos, Arón Piper, Juan Diego Bott,o and Anika Boyle, and produced by Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Adam Kolbrenner, Zach Dean, and Nathan Kahane. Marc Webb directs Day Drinker from a screenplay by Zach Dean. Webb previously directed The Amazing Spider-Man, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and 500 Days of Summer, so he knows a thing or two about making a solid flick.
For Depp, Day Drinker is one of several major projects arriving as he returns to larger studio productions. He will also star as Ebenezer Scrooge in the upcoming dark adaptation of A Christmas Carol, titled Ebenezer, which arrives in theaters in November 2026. The actor has been widely missed as he is considered one of the best of his generation.
With a private yacht, a mysterious passenger, a criminal figure, and a supernatural mystery at the center of the story, Day Drinker looks to have plenty of secrets waiting to be uncovered when it reaches theaters next year.
