When Does Jumanji: Open World Come Out?
Jumanji: Open World opens in theaters on December 25, 2026. That’s two weeks later than its original December 11 date, according to Variety. The new date puts it one week behind the highly anticipated Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday, which both open on December 18.
Will those two giants swallow every big screen? They’ll take plenty. But Jumanji is the family pick on a holiday, and the franchise has history in this window. Welcome to the Jungle opened in December 2017 and passed $950 million worldwide. The Next Level followed in 2019 and reached $801 million.
What Is Jumanji: Open World About?

This one flips the formula. In Welcome to the Jungle and The Next Level, teenagers and their relatives got pulled into the game and had to play their way out. In Open World, the game breaks free of its console, and the avatars walk straight into our world, with the chaos of the jungle right behind them.
They arrive in “demo mode,” so nobody is controlling them, and they malfunction accordingly. Spencer (Alex Wolff) and the other real-world characters have to find a way to get the avatars back into the game.
It also circles back to where the story began. Wild animals running loose in a town is the trouble that drove the 1995 Robin Williams film, so Open World mixes that real-world mayhem with the video game rules of the reboots.
The Robin Williams Tribute
Johnson wanted the final film to honor Williams, and he found a physical way to do it. He wore the prop dice from the 1995 movie around his neck during filming, after costume designer Laura Jean Shannon suggested tracking down the originals.
Johnson shared the tribute in an Instagram video in November 2025 and said the idea was his. The dice also appear in the movie itself, according to reports from CinemaCon.

Jumanji: Open World | One Last Roll of the Dice

Jumanji: Open World looks like a fitting final round. The game is loose in the real world, the avatars are stuck in demo mode, a mom is running around in Bravestone’s body, and the whole cast gets one more shot at the body-swap comedy that made this franchise a hit.
It also nods back to the 1995 original with stampeding animals and Robin Williams’ dice. Can it hold its own against Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday? As a beloved family film franchise that releases on December 25, we think it will.
