Plot details for the movie haven’t been shared yet, but we’re some avid gamers over here, so we know the game pretty well, and it gives us plenty to work with. It follows V, a mercenary in Night City, a dystopian California metropolis.
V ends up with a cybernetic biochip holding the engram of Johnny Silverhand, a legendary rockstar and terrorist played by Keanu Reeves in the game. Johnny’s consciousness slowly takes over V’s mind, so the two have to cooperate to pull apart and save V’s life. That means going up against Arasaka, the megacorporation that effectively runs the city.
Why Paramount Is Betting on the Franchise
The numbers are hard to ignore. Cyberpunk 2077 has sold more than 40 million copies worldwide, and its Phantom Liberty expansion has passed 15 million.
This is also one of several game adaptations on Paramount’s slate. Street Fighter, co-produced with Legendary, opens October 16. A Call of Duty film is also in the works, with Peter Berg directing and co-writing alongside Taylor Sheridan (Lioness, Landman, Dutton Ranch).
What We Don’t Know Yet
No cast, director, writer, or release date has been announced for the Cyberpunk 2077 movie. Will it follow V’s and Johnny Silverhand’s story from the game, or go somewhere new in Night City? Who’s taking over Keanu’s Silverhand, if not the legend himself? These are the questions we’re most curious about.
We’ll update this post as more news and details land. In the meantime, take a look at more of Taylor Sheridan’s hit shows on our list of the best 15 TV shows of 2026 (so far) and stay updated on the best movies and TV shows to watch this month.
