It seems Warner Bros. Discovery is going to give the people want they want: more HARRY POTTER. During an investors call November 3rd, David Zaslav said,
“We’re going to focus on franchises. We haven’t had a SUPERMAN movie in 13 years. We haven’t done a HARRY POTTER in 15 years… the DC movies and the HARRY POTTER movies provided a lot of the profits for Warner Bros…over the past 25 years.”
Of course, the biggest concern with the POTTER films is can they get author J.K Rowling on board? In recent years, Rowling has been publicly criticized for her comments about the trans community. If she can partner with WBD and clear up some concerns that may arise from working with her, the possibilities are endless.
While still part of the Wizarding World, the FANTASTIC BEASTS franchise has begun to see less success at the box office. This began once news broke that Johnny Depp would not be reprising his role as Gellert Grindelwald, mostly due to his public legal battles with ex-wife, Amber Heard.
Nonetheless, it’s a no brainer that fans of all ages would be delighted to have more HARRY POTTER films hit the big screen. The casting would be quite interesting, seeing how Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint have aged well and could still play their title characters. Only time will tell if these ideas see the light of day.
