Why You Should Watch Kid Cudi’s New Documentary A MAN NAMED SCOTT

A Man Named Scott Kid Cudi

Back in 2008, Scott Mescudi, better known as Kid Cudi, released his first mixtape, A Kid Named Cudi. Fast forward 13 years later, he has a new documentary fittingly titled A Man Named Scott on Amazon Prime.

It is a beautiful deep dive into the rapper’s personal life. Cudi is unapologetically himself and just as authentic as he has always been through his whole career. During the one hour and 35 minute film, we get to hear from Scott as well as some of the people closest to him. There’s quite a bit of familiar faces including Timotheé Chalamet, Willow Smith, SchoolBoy Q, Kanye West and Shia LaBeouf.

Why You Should Give It a Watch

If you’re a fan of Cudi, then that’s a good enough reason for you to check it out. But what does this doc have to offer for people who may not be familiar with the rapper or his music? Those people exist? What about those who like him as an artist but never really kept up with his personal life? This film is so much more than your average story of a musician’s journey to fame. While he does discuss what inspired his albums, there’s a deeper message to be heard. You’re able to peel back the layers of a person that many of us can relate to: someone who dealt with issues we all face, yet he had to do it in the piercing eyes of the public.

Trying to balance mental health and a wildly successful career wasn’t easy. Cudi details a lot of the trials and tribulations he faced throughout his life. From depression to substance abuse to suicidal thoughts leading to rehab, he puts it all on the table. Today, he stands a strong, healed man that was able to find the light at the end of the tunnel through all the darkness. He radiates drive and determination as he details his strong desire to never give up.

Although not being happy, he was aware that there were so many people that looked up to him and found comfort in his songs. His music spoke to those who were dealing with things they may not have been ready to face but he let them know they weren’t alone. He inspires so many and he discusses how that weight affected him over time. What is so amazing is that, although damaged himself, he put on a smile and unselfishly guided those who looked up to him.

This documentary is 1000% worth the watch. You’ll laugh, cry, and be inspired to really be yourself and go after anything you’ve ever wanted. Chances are you’ve come across a musician or actor that has credited Cudi with saving their life. After seeing A Man Named Scott, it’s easy to understand why.

I'm a big movie buff that also loves NFL football. Interviewing talent associated with films is one of my favorite things to do as there is nothing more special then diving into a project with the people who made them happen.
